Beijing announced sanctions on a fresh batch of American defense contractors and senior executives in retaliation for a US arms sale package to Taiwan worth roughly $1.4 billion.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the measures freeze any property of the named entities in China and bar Chinese organisations and individuals from transacting with them.

The sanctioned firms had limited direct exposure to the Chinese market, leading analysts to describe the move as primarily symbolic, with broader signalling value for the bilateral relationship.

Washington maintains arms sales to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act, framing them as defensive in nature, a position Beijing rejects as a violation of the three US-China joint communiqués.
